Privacy
Your data stays on your device.
Thrive is a local app. There is no account to create, and everything you log lives in a database on your iPhone. Three things leave it, each described below: the AI estimates you ask for, your subscription status, and, only if you allow tracking, which ad brought you to Thrive.
What Thrive stores
Your profile, energy and macro targets, food entries, weigh-ins, hydration, workouts and completed sets are saved on your device using Apple’s on-device storage. They are included in your normal iPhone or iCloud device backup if you have one turned on, under Apple’s terms rather than ours.
What Thrive does not do
- No account, sign-in or profile held by us.
- No ads inside Thrive, and no selling of personal information.
- Your food diary, workouts, weigh-ins and anything read from Apple Health stay on your device, except the short summaries described under ”The AI estimates you ask for”, and only when you use those features.
- Health data is never used for advertising and never sent to AppsFlyer or RevenueCat.
Your subscription
- Subscriptions are sold by Apple and Google. Thrive uses RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives a random identifier created for this app (not your name or Apple ID), your purchase and subscription history, and device identifiers used to attribute subscriptions to ads if you allow tracking. Apple and Google handle payment; we never see your payment details.
Measuring our ads
- When you first open Thrive, iOS asks whether Thrive may track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. If you allow it, Thrive uses AppsFlyer to learn which ad or link brought you to the app, and RevenueCat tells AppsFlyer when a trial or subscription starts. AppsFlyer receives your device’s advertising identifier, basic app events (installs and opens) and those subscription events, never your name, weight, food, workouts or health data. If you ask Thrive not to track, AppsFlyer stays off. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or in Thrive under Profile → Privacy.
The AI estimates you ask for
A few features let you ask for help that a model has to work out: photographing or describing a meal, planning a day of meals, a photo physique check, and the coach’s answer to an open question. These are always your choice, one action at a time, and everything else in Thrive keeps working without them.
When you use one, this is what happens:
- Before the first request, Thrive asks whether you want to use its AI service and lists what is sent. Nothing is sent unless you allow it, and you can turn it off in Profile → AI.
- The photo you took or chose, or the words you typed, are sent to Thrive’s estimate service at thriveai.fit and passed to our model provider so the estimate can be produced. A meal plan also sends your calorie and macro targets, the meals to plan, any allergies and constraints you listed, and the names of foods you marked as favourites. A coach answer and the workout brief send a short summary of your logged training, body weight and sleep (which can include readings you imported from Apple Health): the same summary the app shows you under ”What the coach can see”. A physique check sends the photos you choose and any measurements you include, after its own consent.
- Photos are resized and stripped of their original metadata before they are sent. The estimate comes back to your phone, where the result is saved. Nothing else from your log goes with it.
- Our service keeps a random install identifier and a count of how many estimates that install has asked for, so the service can be metered and paid for. It does not keep your photos, your text or your results, and the identifier is not linked to your name, your Apple ID or your email.
- The models are Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini, run by Replicate. They process the request to return an estimate, and we do not permit their use for training on your content.
If you would rather nothing left your phone, choose ”Not now” when Thrive asks, or turn off Profile → AI, and use the typed and manual paths instead: every feature that estimates has a way to log the same thing by hand.
Food lookups
Scanning a barcode or searching for a food sends that barcode number or search text to Open Food Facts, an open food database, so it can return the product. Nothing else is sent with it.
Deleting your data
Individual entries can be deleted in the app. Removing everything is a matter of deleting Thrive from your iPhone, which removes its database with it. Resetting the sample profile from Today or Profile clears the demo history immediately.
Health and medical use
Thrive estimates energy needs using published equations and the details you enter. It is a tracking tool, not medical advice, and it has not been reviewed clinically. Speak to a qualified professional before making significant changes to how you eat or train.
